On 30 July, the part owners and leading developers Moolman Group – in partnership with the PHG Group and Braam van Huyssteen, celebrated the commencement of construction on Ferndale on Republic shopping centre (previously known as Brightwater Commons) which is set to transform Randburg’s shopping landscape.
This project, in contrast to previous endeavours, is a complete redevelopment, which will focus specifically on community shopping. Once completed, Ferndale on Republic will be ‘unrecognisable’, managed with attention to detail, and completely repositioned to benefit both retailers and shoppers alike.

Ferndale on Republic will boast impressive national brands and stores in response to an obvious gap in the densely populated market of ± 36 000 households in a 3.5 km radius. The mixed-use development improves sustainability and is approximately
53 000 in total. Roughly 23 000 of the GLA (Gross Lettable Area) will be used for the community shopping centre.
Pick n Pay, Checkers, Dis-Chem, Clicks, Food Lover’s Market and Ignite Gym will anchor the newly redeveloped community shopping centre. In addition, Ferndale on Republic will grow more retail opportunities, featuring a wide restaurant selection with the likes of Mugg & Bean, Panarottis, Ocean Basket, Roman’s Pizza and Seattle Coffee joining – while Spur will also be making a return.

The tenant mix will be further complimented by PNA, Crazy Plastics, Baby Boom, Bargain Books, Torga Optical, Crazy Pets, Pick n Pay Clothing, Shoe City and Tekkie Town, while we welcome back Pep, Ackermans and Mr Price Clothing. The offering will be completed with banking convenience at Absa and Capitec.

12 000 m² has been allocated to Urban Brew Studios – a leading television production company that has been in business since 1995. A further 1 000m² has been taken up by UnlockD, a youth talent development business focusing on preparing young job seekers to kick start their careers.
The architectural design of the project allows for simple and logical movement patterns, resulting in an easy-to-navigate shopping experience. The overall stylish simplicity is further complemented by the new functional parking area, situated in the heart of the development, creating an offering that will take the current shopping experience to a whole new level.

The development will also feature 200 residential units as part of the future mixed-use development.  The care and devotion exerted in the repositioning of Ferndale on Republic permeates through the architecture, tenant mix and marketing collateral.
The developers are confident that their calculated efforts will invert any undesirable perceptions, and are looking forward to the successful completion of this exciting project, which is set to become a landmark development in Randburg.
