This prime site, situated on the busy Barry Hertzog and Napier Streets, was the original location of the Rand Steam Laundries in the late 19th century. Now classified as a heritage site with some of the original structures still in place, it was one of the first examples of industrial architecture in the city.

Rand Steam has been creatively designed around the extensive history of the area, with careful consideration for heritage site regulations. Unique design elements allow for an exciting and tasteful combination of old and modern architecture, art and an abundance of refreshing greenery.
The distinctly innovative and upmarket shopping centre will have a strong focus on unparalleled convenience, and is envisioned to provide an exceptional shopping destination for the surrounding office, student and residential markets.
Rand Steam will be anchored by major national retailers such as Pick n Pay, Woolworths Food and Clicks. These will be complemented by a comprehensive mix of quality brands, including Bootlegger Coffee Company, Sorbet, Executailors, Nap Living, Eyemakers Optometrist and Cartridge Depot. In addition to the exciting retail offering, shoppers will enjoy the convenience of ample, on-grade parking that will be enclosed, safe and secure.
Rand Steam’s sod turning ceremony was attended by members of the Heritage Foundation, and potential and confirmed tenants, along with the developers, partners, residents and media – all gathered to mark the commencement of construction. The official grand opening of the new Rand Steam is planned for April 2019.
